[00:00:05] Speaker B: How we doing? What's going on, brother? Appreciate you, man. This is really cool. I'm so, like, was really laid back. Not crazy, wild. I like this atmosphere.
[00:00:14] Speaker A: That's cool. Yeah. Thank. Shout out to the artisan. We're here at the artisan. I'm not sure the. The address out, but I'll put it on the. Somewhere on the page or. Yeah.
[00:00:21] Speaker B: 218 North Chaparral.
[00:00:23] Speaker A: There we go. That's what's up. 218 North Shaft Borough. Wendell Williams caught the pass on that one. Appreciate you, bro.
Yeah, so we obviously have. No, no, you through the comedy scene.
[00:00:34] Speaker B: Right.
[00:00:34] Speaker A: And even before that, like, I think you were commenting on my stuff on the stuff on Facebook and stuff like that, which was pretty cool. So. And then I met you, I was like, oh, yeah, I got to get him on.
[00:00:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:00:45] Speaker A: Just to get some of that. Get some of that old school knowledge on here, you know, a little bit,
[00:00:49] Speaker B: you know, and thinking about me, I only talk about what I have actually experienced.
[00:00:54] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:00:54] Speaker B: You know, and. And my time on this earth has been, wow, something else. And I'm just enjoying it. I'm a homer here. You know, this is. I call Corpus Christi my house.
[00:01:04] Speaker A: Yes, sir.
[00:01:04] Speaker B: You know, being born and raised here in Corpus Christi, Texas, and I'm just loving every minute of it, you know, and. And I appreciate you, man.
[00:01:12] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:01:13] Speaker B: You know what? Putting me on. I'm enjoying this right now because it's really laid back. I'm in a good mood.
[00:01:17] Speaker A: No, really cool. Nice, man. I wish I would have got us a drink before we started, man.
[00:01:21] Speaker B: Well, that's all right. I had one at the Lazy Beach.
[00:01:22] Speaker A: That's what's up, bro. Yeah. And then obviously, when. When I think of you now, at this moment, I'm thinking of Hill. Hillcrest. Because you told me you grew up in that neighborhood.
[00:01:31] Speaker B: Yeah, I still live there. I still reside there.
[00:01:33] Speaker A: Still live there, doesn't it? There was. Somebody commented on our stuff, like, you should get somebody from Hillcrest. And you're like, I'm from Hillcrest.
[00:01:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:40] Speaker A: So, yeah, I guess with our viewers here, obviously, there's a lot of stuff going on with Hillcrest at the moment.
[00:01:47] Speaker B: Oh, there has been going on when actually in the first 18 years of my life was right here. You know, I graduated from Miller 1974. And Point Fin is for years back then from 1960 to 1973, before there was Flint Hills, Valero and Citgo.
[00:02:06] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:02:06] Speaker B: There was Southwestern Refinery, Hess Oil company, ppng, American smelting.
And he always had that sulfuric smell of like rotten egg every day.
[00:02:18] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:02:19] Speaker B: And it came over every day, man. It was really bad. People had respiratory problems and they had a tank that leak for 13 years and they really didn't tell anybody. And right now with the water crisis, how thing the Nissa plant, they tell, oh, we don't want to kill the fish and the brine is going to mess up. Well, they didn't care about the fruit of life that was actually going on in Hill.
[00:02:41] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:02:42] Speaker B: When I mean the fruit of life, I'm talking like palm trees in my own backyard, you know, had an orange tree, grapefruit tree, tangerine tree. Wow. Flower, granite tree, peace tree, loquat tree. Even had honeysuckles with hummingbirds. And the bumblebees would come to pollinate and it was a really good site. But now when they killed that out and when I say they, I'm talking about the refineries.
[00:03:10] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:03:11] Speaker B: You know, it wasn't the, the citizens of corporate or the residents of Hillcrest and when I came back in 2004, they want to say that we want to turn Hillcrest into a hip, you know, there was an industrial park and it would have been good. It could have been Hillcrest, you know, made it hip. Hillcrest Industrial Park. They didn't do it. They fell off. Why? Because they want to give up that money. Now, having said that, in the early 60s, before there was Google or email.
[00:03:38] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:03:39] Speaker B: You know, they sent residents letters out tomorrow to the white residents, you need to move out because the land has been contaminated. Oh, they didn't do that to the blacks and the Mexicans. That was. And some people who knew they stayed and when things came about and made it bad for everybody and it was just a little bit too late and people that was in charge of half the money didn't want to, you know, everybody want to pay what they don't want to play, you know, meaning that they don't want to give. For you to move out to somewhere to get a better foundation, it would become a blessing. So things have just gotten worse and now it's just like sugar coating.
Why you want to try to build a pool there on north side here and you have a water crisis now and this could have been all avoided decades, see.
[00:04:26] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:04:27] Speaker B: And I know a lot of people from this and this and that they could do it. They just don't want to spend the money because that's what I got. I've been in situations because Dick Bowers, he's one. I'm going to put his name out there because he said it from the port commissioners. He stated that Hillcrest is a wasteland. Well, who turned it into a waste?
Because I remember the days I lived on similar 1400 block of stem. See, I would travel north all the way to Broadway. You go on the other side of the basin, right next to the Coast Guard station. You could fish, man, catching drum, flounder, sheephead, you know, croaker trout, and even little ribbon fish. And then after I would catch my little three or four, I. I go ahead and start. Want to get the big blue crafts. Oh, and so then they stop that out. Oh, we don't want you to fish because of the oil spills. Oh, oh, yes. And so things are really crazy, you know, about how things are today. They don't want to tell you the truth because they don't want to pay. They talking about, oh, it's a need to know basis.
And it's sad how things are. That's the reason why they're having shortcomings today. What was the first thing they said when they was said they will build this new cable suspension heart bridge. It was going to bring in more larger vessels for petroleum and cargo.
[00:05:42] Speaker A: Right.
[00:05:43] Speaker B: Well, okay, okay. When has that been happening?
How much money is going on? If he was already doing so many million barrels a day, what are you doing right now? They're not going to tell you the numbers because they said it will cost too much money. Why you think north beach hasn't been built up?
Because the sludge that's on that side, they can't do anything. It will cost a lot of money. Well, y' all messed it up. Clean it up.
That's how I look at it, man. I'm serious with. They don't want to listen to that. And it's sad how things are these days. So, hey, stand by for heavy Rose. They didn't care. Why should I care? And I'm just telling the truth. I'm not mad about anything. I'm just being very honest.
[00:06:24] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:06:25] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:06:25] Speaker A: No, for sure. It makes me think about, well, what's gonna. Where are the. Where are the residents from there going to go? It seems like I'm thinking, like, what is. What are the Hillcrest residents like, holding on to?
[00:06:39] Speaker B: Well, let me put it to this.
[00:06:40] Speaker A: You know what I mean?
[00:06:41] Speaker B: Yes. And now at one time, you had over 430 some odd homeowners in Hillcrest at one time. Now I know it's under you know a hundred and then that's including north side. They'll probably have property not actually own anything. You got the Elliot Grand Homes. Them people don't own those homes. You know and that goes to somebody got the, those little rooms square Tom Homes, Helms Acres. That's in that area. And that's it.
[00:07:08] Speaker A: That's it.
[00:07:09] Speaker B: You know and, and it's sad cuz when I first moved back I tried to tell my mom. I said mom, you and your kin folks have been in this area for 50 years plus bill coalition get your black lawyer. Let's go over the details. I help you with it because once they put themselves your license on you, nothing you can do. Well they didn't hear what I had to say.
And so it is what it has become. People ask me what number you want. I want $2.25 million tax free.
You know because where else can you go to try to get assumed? Well that's too much. I don't want market value. We are in 2026. Oh wow. And, and so it doesn't matter what you think. You already know how much money you're going to make. That's. That's real blessing to people. But since you don't want to give blessings you're going to have shortcomings. And that's what's going on right now.
[00:08:00] Speaker A: Oh wow.
[00:08:02] Speaker B: That you know cuz they always say what we're going to run out of water in 2027. That's what they say. I don't know. I don't know who's calculating the water.
Okay. You taxing people cuz if they over a certain amount a month now you taxing them right. You charge them up to $500 per day per violation.
[00:08:21] Speaker A: Damn.
[00:08:22] Speaker B: That's crazy. Wow. You know it doesn't and it's crazy. It's already with the streets but once again everybody want to play but not everybody want to pay. And that's how it is.
[00:08:33] Speaker A: So. So okay so you guys are asking for fair for fairness. I guess you can say well yes,
[00:08:39] Speaker B: yes fairness and just do the right thing because it's really hard just try to get up and move. Nothing is brand new. I'm I wish I need repairs to my foundation. You and it's nothing is cheap. Yeah it just like for me personally as far I know people going to flip out on this. But I've already called 811. You know what 811 is? That's where you got to Dig in the back, cuz I'm not going to go out and get no plot, man, or no cemetery, cuz I don't know those people in there.
[00:09:08] Speaker A: Oh, sure.
[00:09:09] Speaker B: To my point, I'll just bury me in the back.
[00:09:12] Speaker A: Think of somebody's AR animals or something, bro.
[00:09:15] Speaker B: Just crazy, man. It's just crazy, man.
[00:09:18] Speaker A: That's wild. Yeah, yeah. I've always been interested in what's going on. I talked to some guy on the bus a while back, like a few months ago. He's like Hillcrest used to be like, cops wouldn't even want to go in there.
And I was like, man, that's. That's. That's pretty wild. That's like 90s stuff.
[00:09:33] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Well, that's understandable. I used to drive a cab when I got out the military cow. I got in the cab business. Transportation business, you know, with Crinky Tap.
Back in the day, we had Northside running and a lot of things were going on just over the city. And Corpus Christi isn't that big. You actually drive around it in 25 to 30 minutes, you know, in a big circle.
[00:09:54] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:09:54] Speaker B: It's just a big loop. The only thing that stadium you got that. Is it still. Is it still The Gulf of Mexico is the Gulf of America now. I don't know.
But just to go out and things that's been happening on the island where the North Padre is the last underdeveloped, you know, beach and the United States.
[00:10:13] Speaker A: Seriously?
[00:10:14] Speaker B: Yes. And that's crazy. Wow. Because I've been other places really nice now. South probably island is cool. And they didn't let the kids have a good here. Man, they gonna get you, you know, and so a lot of things that they have done to make it good and to make it bad and, you know, it's heartfelt when you know things that happen. But once again, if you don't have numbers and people and you don't have the resources asking money, it's nothing you can really do.
[00:10:39] Speaker A: Oh, man.
[00:10:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
So it's crazy. Wow.
[00:10:43] Speaker A: Wow.
So you. We. I was. And I'm just thinking, like, where. Where are you guys gonna go? Like if. Do you think. Do you think they're. They're actually gonna build stuff out there? And eventually y' all will be trying to build.
[00:10:55] Speaker B: Now is that little softball field that they trying to do right before you get to.
On the west side of the new bridge.
And they trying to put like a. Oh, bring back the T series pool. Because main. You know, actually they had the little projects which Molded and, and things that they had and land that was bad. Oh, you knew these things. Oh, you know, you can knock it down and build it back up. They want to try to call Texas. Once you go to Texas river era, when you not see that little river, it's nothing that's going to go on. Yeah, they're not doing anything really. They said it's for the community. What community? Go ahead and say you want to build your 170 room hotel there for some nice little restaurants.
What they call the area downtown, the seed district, Sports, entertainment and arts district.
[00:11:49] Speaker A: Right.
[00:11:49] Speaker B: But that's to me like sugar caning. And y' all just screwing off money, man. You could have put that money in, gave the people and let us all move out, you know, graciously. It was a buyout thing, you know, but it was more like voluntary. Unless you was in intimate domain where the bridges come right over your property. What they had to do then you had to go other than that. No, because hud, the city of Corpus Christi, Florida, Corpus Christi. And they all made money in the state. They all made money. Not everybody made money. People who did voluntary move out, they didn't get the deal that they thought they was going to get.
[00:12:26] Speaker A: Oh, shoot.
[00:12:27] Speaker B: And it's sad. It's sad. So people are upset and all these meetings, to me it's like protocol. We have these meetings say, well, we did let them know they don't have the numbers to offset anything. And that's it. Because somebody been pocketing money. Because if a company that's been paying that make billions of dollars or hundreds and millions of dollars and they don't pay any taxes for 10 to 15 to 20 years, where's that money going?
That's a kickback. You know more offshore bank accounts have risen within, dramatically within the last three years than anything. Think about that.
We got to put five bands, which is $5,000 minimum, into an offshore bank account. So I know it's some people even in corporate, excuse me, got them an offshore bank account. So please, you know, I'm, I'm trying to be disrespectful. I'm just telling the truth.
[00:13:20] Speaker A: Yeah, man.
[00:13:21] Speaker B: Yeah. It's crazy, man.
[00:13:22] Speaker A: Yeah, it is. And you grew up like in, and what you say, the 60s, like even
[00:13:26] Speaker B: I was born in 55. I was born in 55. So things come. I seen a lot of things that accumulate to. And, and at level five, level two is age. That's when I started, let you say woke started experiencing things was going on.
[00:13:42] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:13:43] Speaker B: You know what was going on, what was happening? And I would ask questions. My dad was an army Korean War veteran. He was a Mason.
You're not a steel worker. Union working guy.
[00:13:54] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:13:55] Speaker B: And his side hustle was upholstery. Oh, he did upholstery. Some people that's there on Ocean Drive. Sitting on my dad's stuff right now.
[00:14:02] Speaker A: Oh, wow.
[00:14:03] Speaker B: Yeah. And so that's a good thing. My mom was a seamstress.
And so I come from that family because I was adopted. I wasn't. You know, I don't never met my biological parents or mom, what have you, but the people that God put in my life help me. That's the reason why I am the way today. But I didn't find out till in 2012, man. And that I was adopted. My mother told me my dad took it to his grave with 99.
You know, he took it to his grave. I know he wanted to tell me sometimes. My mom told me in 2018.
I mean, 2012. Excuse me. She passed in 2018.
[00:14:39] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:39] Speaker B: And so I just took it as a grain of salt, man. And. And it's really crazy. And see people who knew back then. I had a friend of mine, a classmate, he says, man, I knew, but if I had to tell you, I would have got a whooping. I said, well, that's one whooping you should have took. You know, Now I don't mess. I really don't play with them today. Cause it's kind of, you know, I'm. I'm not. I'm not a wishy washy person, man. I just like to tell the truth. And let's move on about it. I'm not saying I've always told the truth, but I know a lot catch up with you really quick.
[00:15:11] Speaker A: Oh, my God, dude.
[00:15:12] Speaker B: Wow. Yeah. So it's crazy.
[00:15:14] Speaker A: Yeah. So you. You. And you mentioned, like, Jim Crow, like, you experienced all that stuff.
[00:15:18] Speaker B: Oh, all of the. And I can understand why some people said that integration really hurt because you look at the schools when they, like Solomon Coves and Booker T. Washington were no longer here. Crosby elementary is sad about that. That's the elementary school I went to. They need to tear that down in Hillcrest area. Why are they holding on to that? That's an eyesore. It's just like the county courthouse. That's an. The old county courthouse.
[00:15:43] Speaker A: Right, right.
[00:15:44] Speaker B: That's a eyesore, you know? And it's like, what are you doing with it? And some people got money tied up.
Please, please. It's just too much of the rhetoric. Of putting the blame game on somebody else. You know how things are. So it's really sad, man. It's nothing I can really do but speak my voice and opinion about it. And just like now, Mary, I ain't got nothing against you, but you just stated that, you know, you're trying to get back federal dollars. What happened to the federal dollars you had.
Okay, I'm gonna try to get back. Shouldn't have made that statement. Should have had somebody to approve. Readers.
[00:16:21] Speaker A: What are you talking about?
[00:16:22] Speaker B: Well, the mayor.
[00:16:24] Speaker A: The. Oh, the mayor. Mayor.
[00:16:26] Speaker B: Today she stated that she's in. In the process of getting back federal dollars for the city. Of course.
[00:16:32] Speaker A: Getting back?
[00:16:33] Speaker B: Yeah, getting back. It's right there. Yeah, getting back. Well, what happened to the dollars that you did?
[00:16:38] Speaker A: We already did have. Right?
[00:16:40] Speaker B: There you go. That's crazy in it. Yes, yes, crazy. She made that statement and I'm calling her out on it. I have nothing against her. Is that, you know, you're a female that got caught up in a man's world on good old Boys, you know, that's it. On good Old boys World, man. You know, and things are really crazy. And I know. I'm trying to go off the subject, but I want you to know in 2015, when I got hit by a car, but really changed in 2015, June 15th, that's why. June 15th, 2015, I got hit at Ayresen McCormick, man. Oh, by this car. I was going across the street. I had the. The right away, this guy was traveling southbound on airs. Went into northbound lane. Missed all those cars at the light. And right, right there, Rosie tamales right there, look. All the tattooed, man.
And that was crazy wild. And that actually changed my life. It did and did more ways than one.
And because at that time when I got hit, four other people had got hit by D U I or dwi and they all. They passed away. Oh, sound like one out of five. So I'm very blessed and grateful and thankful every day.
[00:17:53] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:17:54] Speaker B: When I post that. That's what I mean by that.
[00:17:56] Speaker A: Wow, man.
[00:17:57] Speaker B: You know, it's kind of thing. I was in on the hospital and rehab for 40 days and 40 nights.
[00:18:03] Speaker A: Oh, man.
[00:18:03] Speaker B: 40 days and 40 nights, man. I had an out of body experience. A lot of things that happened.
I just.
This makes who I am today.
[00:18:12] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Is that part of the reason why you got into comedy or.
[00:18:16] Speaker B: Yeah, well, in 2017, I got into it. I always did a lot of writing. I always liked comedy and things like that because I been with the Corpus Christi hooks for three to 14th season.
And it's two places that you should go to that that help you out, and one is the ballpark. That's my sense of wear comedy. It inspires me.
[00:18:41] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:18:41] Speaker B: And I love music. That's. Who's the beast of music. So that's my mindset on things right now. And it helps me a lot for what I do. And even at my level, which is A's, I have no animosity against anybody. I'm just going to tell the truth.
And a lot of people lack that. And I can see how things are today with music. How things are. And people get so crazy. Young people going crazy or crazier, they chaotic. Because you asked me how to feel about a lot of the young comedians. I don't do good. They need a little help, you know, and just try to talk to them, let them know, hey, you can do what you want to do. I'm still here.
[00:19:16] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:19:17] Speaker B: And even though it's a different time and different era, I understand that.
[00:19:20] Speaker A: Oh, wow.
[00:19:21] Speaker B: And it's crazy. Yeah. Crazy wild, as I like to say. Yeah.
[00:19:25] Speaker A: Crazy wild, bro. For sure. And it seems like you draw from a lot of your experience when coming up with jokes and stuff.
[00:19:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:19:33] Speaker A: And truth.
[00:19:33] Speaker B: Like, I look at it as, you know, being. I try to be a storyteller. I first base it off is the acronym man, meaning I like to take letters and words that have somewhat of a negative attitude and put a positive twist.
[00:19:46] Speaker A: Oh, okay. Okay. Yeah.
[00:19:47] Speaker B: That's where I came up with that. And just to make me feel good, because I was. Do something I want to do. I'm not a follower, you know, I'm more of a leader. And I'll lead by example and. But I learned something new every day. At least I want to.
And it just holds true about how life is, man. I'm not a hater.
I don't believe in that, you know, because H A T E. And I put another E at the end. That's a hideous attitude towards everybody and everything.
I don't make time for that because that's creates stress.
[00:20:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:20:20] Speaker B: And I sleep good at night, man. I tell you things how. See how things are. And, you know, I have three kids, nine grandkids, two great grandkids. That's it.
You know, I'm blessed in so many ways. And reuniting with my kids back 20 plus years ago, so that has helped me overcome a lot of obstacles in my life.
[00:20:41] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:20:42] Speaker B: You know, And I was bitter. And I've never had.
Let's say I've had various of jobs. I'm like a jack of many trades, but I am definitely the master of manure and I am man and I don't mind. It's all good, you know, I don't want to hate on. I want to learn to see what you got. Can you teach me? I can teach you.
[00:21:02] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:21:03] Speaker B: And you write in my stand up a lot of things. I haven't even broke the surface on some things about on the comedy level.
Tomorrow night, you know, at Mesquite shading with child from up. I'm downtown on Friday night at the lazy beach with some really cool peaks. You know, Bobby Pena, Mark Bettis, Tim Boudreaux, Skip Pettit, Anajay Ramirez. You talking about dei.
All of that's gonna be right there Friday night.
[00:21:32] Speaker A: Yeah, for sure.
[00:21:33] Speaker B: You know, and it's a lot of other things that's gonna. Ralph Barbosa being town Friday night, the Willow venue out in Portland with Sha Jack and at Theo they kicking it off. So it's all about doing what you.
[00:21:45] Speaker A: We're doing our thing down here, bro.
[00:21:46] Speaker B: The comedy in the 361 is, is bumping, man. Tina LA has been. Been. Been bossing it up and people been feeding off to that and that's just the way it is.
[00:21:56] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:57] Speaker B: And. And I love it. And I give a a lot of shout out. I want to give a shout out to Javier Luna, man. He's the one shout out. You know, I really like his game. Him, Sean Miller, Andy Gomez are probably my favorite comedians that I like.
[00:22:10] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:22:10] Speaker B: You know, because really, if you make me laugh, you're funny.
That's how I look at it.
[00:22:14] Speaker A: Of course.
[00:22:15] Speaker B: You know, and I look at other things going on and the females, I encourage more females to come out and chop it up.
[00:22:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:22] Speaker B: You know, Ralph the Barbara, Anna J. Corinne the artist, Mary the gamer. And it, it, it holds gender real.
So just come out and do you and the people that are starting in the game just slow your roll though. Don't expect nothing overnight, you know, and if she can stick your hand in your toilet and turn it into gold or whatever it is, you know, and drink from that, then you're good. Other than that, don't worry about so much. Oh, woe is me, Woe is you.
[00:22:50] Speaker A: Yeah, bro. Wow, that's. That's good advice.
[00:22:53] Speaker B: You look at a lot of things, Trish, your family, man, you have kids.
[00:22:56] Speaker A: Yes, sir.
[00:22:57] Speaker B: And you want to try to do the best you can for them and your wife, you know, Because a lot of times I talk on that process about family and religion. How things are is what you deal with every day, what you deal with every day. And that's what's going to make you become a better person. Always had that open mind, being humble, realizing you're going to learn something new every day.
[00:23:21] Speaker A: Yes, sir.
[00:23:21] Speaker B: And if you think you know it all, okay, then go. Go change that light bulb there on the harbor bridge. Let me know how that turns out.
Or better yet, this is my favorite saying. Now go ahead and suck a doorknob and use it for a butt plug.
Something. Hey, man. It's kind of. Hey, yeah.
[00:23:40] Speaker A: How do you feel about clean comedy? Because I know a lot of stuff. Your stuff is your stuff. You know what I mean?
[00:23:45] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, I like. I like clean. I can do clean. I've done clean. You know, I can do it. Just let me know what the atmosphere. Yeah, yeah, whatever you want. I just go read the room.
You know, I look at it personally now. I've been like, when, you know, good old boy, all white crowd. I'm the only black sheep in there.
[00:24:03] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:03] Speaker B: And I got them rolling at last.
[00:24:04] Speaker A: Oh, wow, that's my phone.
[00:24:07] Speaker B: That's how I look at it. You know, you just do you, man, I got clean. If you want clean. And people say, like, anything else, well, it's gonna cost you. Yeah, yeah, I got clean. And people that do really good. Nate Vargassi is really clean. Lito Cortez here, tremendous. The guys that got that clean.
[00:24:23] Speaker A: Yes, sir.
[00:24:24] Speaker B: You know, whatever the room calls for. I got you nice. And, you know, like I tell I'm not from Missouri, but I can show you whether I can tell you. Giving that chance. People ask, how much time you got? How much time you want to give me?
[00:24:35] Speaker A: Oh, wow.
[00:24:36] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:24:37] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:37] Speaker B: And that's it. You know, I am confident person. I'm an older guy, man, and I try my best not to sweat the load. I stay in my lane on cruise control, and my turn signals do work. You know, you asked me earlier if I'm in the dating scene. No, no, I do interviews now.
I do interviews, man.
[00:24:59] Speaker A: What's the difference?
[00:25:00] Speaker B: The difference is I don't. We. I can't go down here and get you out of spot. We go hang out on Shoreline and have that or get a cold winter. I dressed up Corona and have a good conversation.
Why I want to take you to the Texas Republican for it.
[00:25:15] Speaker A: You know, I can cook.
[00:25:17] Speaker B: Can you cook?
[00:25:18] Speaker A: Oh, shoot.
[00:25:19] Speaker B: Now, it's a lot of things. I love and need a warmth from a woman. But cooking is not one of them. You know, it's an added plus.
You know, just be respect. I'm very respectful to women. You know, I ain't no simp. I can die. I'm not a simp.
I'm a song. I'm not a simp, man. And just by respect, man, personally, to me. And then if women, you know, kind of, you know, red flags. You talking about red flags? Green flags. Well, don't bring no flags, man. Just come be yourself when I don't want you to do it louder. Me, because when I peak game on that, I'm gone.
Because to me, if you do something once, you will not hesitate to do it again. So why should I take that chance?
[00:25:59] Speaker A: Take the chance.
[00:25:59] Speaker B: Take that chance, man. It's up to you. Life is full of chances, bro.
[00:26:03] Speaker A: Wow, bro, man. That's a lot of wisdom right there, Wendell.
[00:26:07] Speaker B: Well, you know, I look at it that at times my dad really helped me because when I was growing up, he always told me, you had one strike against you and that was the color of the skin. Oh, I didn't know what he meant until I got in the real world and saw how people that were non black, they wouldn't even call my name. They wouldn't use the N word. And so I'm not a big fan of the N word. You see me, I don't use the N word when I stand up. But I got an acronym for it, though.
And I try to take that negative vibe. It's just like the VI T.
I know women. And when I ran this by my mom the first time I ran it by there, she's like. Her eyes were like. Because that means a female dog on this corner. No, that's beautiful. Intelligent, tenacious, trauma.
Take that and flip that negative stuff.
And I. I can't. I'm not going to give you my acronym for which. Oh, no, I don't hear, man, they don't shut you down.
But. But think about that for a memory. If y' all hear that. W, I, T, C, H. But my point is trying to take a negative vibe and put a positive twist.
[00:27:14] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, that's good.
[00:27:15] Speaker B: And for those who say. Well, let me hear. Acronym for the N word. Okay. I'm naughty, I'm innovative, I have a gift. I got the gab, I'm entertaining, and I'm definitely a romantic.
Yeah, I'm that N word with the heart. Er.
[00:27:30] Speaker A: Wow, bro.
[00:27:30] Speaker B: Okay, y' all deal now with people because now I'm coming out with colonizers. That's the C with the heart er colonizers. It's coming soon. Standby. So if you don't like that, I looked it up, just. Oh, that's so derogatory. Oh, well, deal with it accordingly. It's okay. Don't get in your feelings. There a lot of things I haven't liked in life. Oh. So, yeah, that's right. The C with the hard er colonizer.
Like Budweiser.
Why not? Let's make fun. You want a joke? Let's joke. You got a jokey joke? Can you take my jokey joke?
[00:28:04] Speaker A: Oh, wow.
[00:28:06] Speaker B: Because I have very few jokes, but what I do have is a duffel bag full of acronyms and comebacks.
[00:28:12] Speaker A: Oh, shoot.
[00:28:14] Speaker B: It's just like you've been when they have the Helker Room sometimes at the House of Rock. They started.
[00:28:18] Speaker A: I heard of it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:28:20] Speaker B: Well, you know, just like last night, when people. I don't want nobody helping nobody. I told them, hey, start off with me. Heckle me. You know, this is in the heckle room. And can you really get heckle? Some people can't really take it, and it all depends. The thing is, bring it to me. Let's bring it. Let's get it on out.
Yeah. Say what's on your mind. Get it off your chest.
[00:28:42] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:28:43] Speaker B: You know where it is without stepping or what they call crashing out now, stepping out of character or like you want to fight because somebody upset you. What they said, oh, wow. That doesn't mean I'm going to give you the password for the N word, you know, because I got colonizer now. So we're going to see how that works out, you know, and the recent, you know, the months to come, man.
And I want you to know I do have a. A book I'm working on. It ought to be coming out. And the fiscal year of 2027.
[00:29:11] Speaker A: Nice.
[00:29:12] Speaker B: Called life.
[00:29:13] Speaker A: You say fiscal year.
[00:29:14] Speaker B: Fiscal year of 2027. There you go. You caught on to that, you know, called life. Lif living in future expectations.
Now, when your expectations have been met or haven't been met, then it turns into, I call requirements. Some people have boundaries and morals. I got requirements. Therefore, I'm a L, I F, E, R. I'm a lifer.
[00:29:37] Speaker A: Ah, cool.
[00:29:38] Speaker B: And I just keep it like that. To me, it's simple, man.
[00:29:41] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:29:42] Speaker B: I try to keep things simple as much as possible.
[00:29:45] Speaker A: So, man, it seems like people. Because I want to ask your age, but I don't want to be.
[00:29:50] Speaker B: No. Well, I was born in 55 so do the math.
[00:29:54] Speaker A: Yeah. So, like, people, like, from that age, like, they chill, bro. Like, well, I mean, basically, yeah. And it seems like maybe because y' all have gone through so much life, you're like. You know what I mean?
[00:30:06] Speaker B: You live your life, you're seeing a lot of things come up. And, you know, I. I've been blessed to travel early in my life. I've traveled six continents, 44 out of 50 in the United States. Some places I've been to more than three times, and some places I never, never, never, ever, ever want to go back to again. I got reasons for that. And I'm illegal at that. You're gonna have to buy and read my book when it comes out in the fifth year of 2027. Let's see what happens.
[00:30:34] Speaker A: Bye, folks.
2027, fiscal year. Don't forget that one.
[00:30:37] Speaker B: The fiscal year. Yeah, that's right. What does he mean by that? Google it. Google it.
[00:30:42] Speaker A: Google that.
I wanted to Google it right now, trying to figure out.
That's cool. Yeah, man. Thanks for coming on the show. So you have. And you were. You did a couple things at, like, shows at Mesquite. Like, you opened up for Nate Jackson, right?
[00:30:57] Speaker B: Yeah, I hosted that name Jackson. He, you know, I've been a couple of times, and I just like. He works the crowd. Fantastic. And people that come there has Trenton Cotton, who does really good for him, that this is feature or opener.
And he brings. He's a really good young man, you know, out of Seattle, man. And I like his presence. I like his art. He's doing really good. And I like comedians, man. I could say he know how to, you know, rip people up, man.
And it's the thing, too, when they have some shows. Oh, I don't want to sit close to the stage. Well, your ticket. Sit here. You got to sit here. I don't know what to tell you. Cause he going to pick on you, you know, he's going to get you. He's going to look at you. Be careful what you wear.
[00:31:39] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:31:39] Speaker B: Anytime you hear Nate Jackson come to town, and you better make sure you zooted and booted or looking really good, because he gonna get you. He gonna get you. Alicia, Dig will be here, I think, on the 23rd.
I'm not mistaken.
[00:31:52] Speaker A: Cool.
[00:31:52] Speaker B: You know, he's really cool. I like him.
I like. A lot of Conrad Williams is coming through here. The little person, man. That's my little cousin, man. My little white cousin being hooked up. Yeah, I like him.
[00:32:03] Speaker A: I noticed you bring your camera sometimes and video.
[00:32:06] Speaker B: Yeah, I do. And I have Jeremy Wells. He's breaking down a lot of formula. I posted some cool.
[00:32:12] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:32:14] Speaker B: Both of my clips. And now that really has helped me because I get to watch myself and I'm my own. I'm. Oh, wow. If I don't like it, I'll delete it, you know, because not.
[00:32:24] Speaker A: So you're using it mostly for. For content.
[00:32:26] Speaker B: I use it for content and I put out there. Oh yeah, that's a good one. I'll leave it out, let it run with. You know, I'm not. I just have a little bit of Instagram, a lot of Facebook and so, man, you ought to get on TikTok and, you know, I'm old, man. You know, all the excess and time, the things you gotta do, that's just me. I'm good in my place.
[00:32:46] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:32:46] Speaker B: And that's how I look at it. And other young people that constantly own it, you know, and that's good. That's what social media is. Because to me, social media is the gateway, the feedback.
What you post just might get spit on. Whether it's good, bad or ugly, people are gonna let you know to make you feel happy. Madison. Deal with it accordingly, man. Don't get into your feelings, man. You know, or try not to anyway. I know some people can't help it, but. Yeah, that's understandable.
[00:33:16] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what's up. That's pretty cool. I was thinking about something.
Yeah. Recording your set and then putting it out there. Oh, yeah. You're comfortable where you're at. You don't have to start a tick tock. And some people, like, some people. Facebook is fine. Some people don't even have social media.
[00:33:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:33:33] Speaker A: You feel like they don't need it, you know.
[00:33:34] Speaker B: Yeah. And that's good. And. And that's something. Now I don't have social media and some people probably had it, but they don't like it because you hear some people attack people on there and. And it's really bad when they got cyber bullying and I've had where I make a comment on something that might be a little tension and people, well, you know, they say they. I just go in and delete it.
I don't worry about that. And then I go to their profile who make that and I look at it, man, you know, you don't have a picture, you don't have no. Not saying anything. Delete block.
Why I gotta have you on here talking about stuff and you don't even have your face on It, Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. So that's kind of, that's kind of lame to me. But gotta like I say deal with it accordingly, man.
[00:34:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:34:19] Speaker B: Get into your feelings. It's okay.
[00:34:21] Speaker A: Yeah. So being that you're born in the 50s, man, like how do you do, how do you look at, you know what I mean? Like later on do you do that or you just.
I see your posts like you put like today's adorable Lord made.
[00:34:38] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. I'm like, damn, that's, you know, I look at it. This is not a jail.
[00:34:42] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:34:42] Speaker B: Thank you Lord for another truly blessed, grateful and thankful day that comes when I got hit 10 years ago with the car. Cuz, you know, I could have been gone, man. I could have been in a wheelchair. I could have been a paraphilegian, you know, a worst case scenario, death. So I look at that as a. You got to stay humble for what it's worth. Then all the effort. I'm going through a lot of pain and God told me it was going to happen and he said, you're going to go through this, but you get over it. He said, I got faith in you. And so that's how. My faith isn't very strong about a lot of things. And you know, it's not negative, it's always positive. And I understand nothing's going to go your way.
[00:35:20] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:35:21] Speaker B: Just gotta have patience. And young people, you got to have patience.
[00:35:24] Speaker A: Like I take that as like it. It's not always going to go your way. Sometimes, sometimes it will some. But you have to be prepared either way.
[00:35:30] Speaker B: Yeah, either way. Either way you think it's going good and bam.
[00:35:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:35:34] Speaker B: Yep. You know, something to come up. It doesn't matter what it is, man. It could be something that you think is very minute, but it has happened, you know, or it can trigger people or people have something to say. Everybody look at it. You know, Jesus, as human beings we all have a opinion and we all have a butthole and at times it's going to stink, man. So we're going to have to deal with that too.
So it's really crazy wild right now for sure, man.
[00:36:04] Speaker A: Makes you think about humanity.
[00:36:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:36:07] Speaker A: Community and humanity.
Like kind of like we're having community right now, just talking and just the important, the importance of having that in wherever you're at. You know what I mean?
[00:36:19] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:36:19] Speaker A: Because it could not be there or like we can be on this so much.
[00:36:24] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:36:24] Speaker A: Where we're not doing this.
[00:36:26] Speaker B: Yeah. And the thing about it is when you come with things, how you feel Honestly, about anything. Because to me, as a person, you feel it's worthwhile to bring somebody on your podcast to talk about how they feel, and then you refer for that into whatever things that you do in your everyday life with your family, with your co workers and anything here at Artisan for things that you join people, you go out and about things you got to do, and that's just how it is.
[00:36:54] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Wendell, man, is there anything you would like to share before. Before we wrap it up in a few minutes?
[00:37:02] Speaker B: Well, you know, all I want is just for people to. Just to be themselves. Be true and real with yourself, man. You know, I like for people to be more understanding. You can't help everybody. Everybody is not your friend either. Okay. You gotta really squeeze in over. Because the way I look at it, I think it's safe to say that we all have family, friends and loved ones that have passed away. And in my personal experience, they haven't came back to tell me anything different about anything.
[00:37:31] Speaker A: No.
[00:37:32] Speaker B: So you got to keep doing what you do, doing without disrespecting people. Now somebody disrespect you, disrespect them back or walk away be sometimes, sometimes best just to leave things alone because I'm a firm believer, man, that, you know, karma is a death is her sister and I found out over about a decade ago I'm their adopted brother. So I put things in perspective, you know, I'm not going to hate on you unless you try to hate on me, man. That's it, man. And, and I just appreciate this time and effort and I'm really good with this. And I hope people that, that listen to your podcast and feel filled about a lot of things because at this point, I tell my kids and grandkids, I don't have your DNA, you have mine.
There's nothing they could say.
And as in, in retrospect, I don't have any aunts or uncles blood. You know, I have people that are like family friends you put in your life and stuff like that, but no blood.
And I just leave it at that. It is. I'm not bitter about it. Just telling the truth. Yeah, yeah, I try to be. But hey, some things you gotta let go.
[00:38:44] Speaker A: Yes, sir. You gotta let it go.
Gotta live life, man. It's gonna go on like, it's like. It'll. It'll go whether you like it or not.
[00:38:51] Speaker B: Yeah, that's it. It's going to continue to go whether you're not brother. So.
[00:38:54] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:38:54] Speaker B: Well, why you want to be Trying to be mean and hateful because somebody did. I granted, somebody did you wrong. You want to do somebody wrong, but in the long run, it's not going to benefit you because it's always in the back of your mind messing with you, messing with you, messing with you. You know, you have all that sense and that. That bitterness in yourself, and it builds up, which in turn, it cause stress,
[00:39:15] Speaker A: you know, blood pressure. I'm thinking like, you.
You can't take that on stage, can you? Or can you?
[00:39:21] Speaker B: You can, you can, but be ready for the repercussions. But, hey, you can do that. You know, you can take that out. But it's how you put it out. It's how you put it out and how people perceive you. Because, you know, if people don't relate to what you're saying or they're not feeling you, then you're going to get a very negative response.
And that's the thing about it. Because to me, you want people to laugh. You want them to understand.
That's it. Or make them think. I want you to laugh and think about what I said.
And then at the end when people come up to me, hey, man, I like your acronym. Or that's really good. I like that. And it helps me. Now I try to go back. I write, I write, I write, I write every day, man. Yeah, I put things and I just put in my memory back as much as I can because there's so much stuff out there.
I gotta do some marbles, man.
[00:40:10] Speaker A: Oh, shoot. Wow.
[00:40:11] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:40:13] Speaker A: Crazy, bro. Man, Wendell, thanks a lot for coming on the show, man. I'm trying to wrap it up before they open up.
[00:40:18] Speaker B: No problem.
[00:40:18] Speaker A: So you got shows coming up?
[00:40:20] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, just doing open mic tomorrow night, Emerald Skate street, downtown. Damn. Ski Street. Then Friday night, Lazy beach, right here, downtown.
8:00pm it starts. Bobby Pinions, the host. We got the feature. You got Skip Pettit, you got Tim Boudreau, you got Mark. Mark Petals. I did say him. And it's somebody I'm missing. Oh, no, that's it. All of them.
[00:40:49] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:40:49] Speaker B: It's a good dei, you know, Diverse equity and inclusion. And we're having a good time. Nice cold bears. And people say, oh, I'm come see you. I'm come see you. Well, I'll see you when I'm looking at you.
[00:41:01] Speaker A: Yeah, I like when you say that, bro. It's awesome, man. Yeah, it's a good vibe out there. I went out there. It's. It's a nice vibe. I really like it out there. Anyways, Thanks a lot, you guys. Thanks to the artisan for letting us use this, their joint for this recording here. But yeah, go follow window. How do you follow you Window on
[00:41:18] Speaker B: just on Facebook, Instagram, Facebook, little Instagram. Window williams13 on Instagram and just Facebook. You just see my face and you know, Mr. Wendell, that's my handle on stage and just go from there. Much love. I'll see you when I'm looking at you.
[00:41:33] Speaker A: Yes, sir. Shout out to you all later. You all have a good one.
[00:41:35] Speaker B: Peace.
